Today let’s have a look at all the elements of design which help to give the site the desired character. If you have to design a website from a scratch, it is extremely difficult to choose from a variety of design options available. Here is what you have to take into consideration:
A set of fonts
Although design is almost always based on one font only, which is understandable, there are exceptions, when a designer uses a variety of fonts from Times New Roman to Verdana. Each designer realizes that a mixture of fonts is very dangerous and undesirable, mainly due to the fact that this variety does not single out the necessary information, but hurts the eyes of experienced visitor.
The most important thing here is to use only standard fonts, such as Times New Roman, Arial, Tahoma, Verdana, Sans-Serif, Courier New, Comic Sans MS.
As you know, you can specify the font size in points and pixels (only through CSS). In the second case, you can specify the exact size, regardless of the browser settings (large, medium, small).
Background of pages
One of the most important design elements of HTML is the background or the image of website pages. It is clear that the difference between dark blue and white background is obvious, but there are backgrounds that are similar in html-code, but cause a variety of associations.
The background may be either of monotone color or contain a complex pattern, the picture may also be very simple, but in any case it should be loaded easily. It is generally accepted that the pages of background should be monotonous, that is, consist simply of color. One of the major rules here is that the background should not be in the center of attention of the user, so do not choose bright colors that are close to transparent.
Color of objects
Color may be set for each visible object, combining it with the overall design. Of course there are several limitations to color combinations so in this situation you may simply use shades of grey.
Combination of colors
Perhaps this is the most important phase. Very often we may see quite wild combinations of colors such as dark red with black or vice versa, light green with bright red, etc. Just keep in mind that each color of individual objects, the background of the page, table and the cells should not “interrupt” the information – the user must not pay attention to the site design as it must be by itself.
