Cross Browser Testing

One of the duties of web designers and web developers is to ensure compatibility of the website with all kinds of browsers. In recent years there have been quite a lot of web services that help developers and designers to quickly and easily make cross-browser testing. Let’s have a look at some of them.

The service supports multiple browsers – more than 164 combinations of browsers on 4 operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, BSD).

By default Browsershots checks the latest versions of browsers, but it is available for old versions as well.

Adobe BrowserLab

Adobe BrowserLab is free cross-browser testing tool from Adobe. Through Windows or Mac OS, it allows to test the site in modern and some older browsers, including different versions of Chrome, Safari, IE and Firefox.

SuperPreview is Microsoft’s offer in cross-browser testing. It is compatible only with Windows. The tool allows you to define a set of browsers for testing. It works with any browser installed on your system. It integrates IE6 inference which provides fast operation, but also limits the browsers available for comparison.

SuperPreview is a free tool and is planned as part of Expression Web. The online version includes support for Chrome, Safari (Mac) 4 +5, Firefox 3 +4.

Lunascape 6

Lunascape 6 is the first and only browser running on three platforms: Trident, WebKit and Gecko. The first is based on the popular browser Internet Explorer, the second – on Safari, and, finally, the third on FireFox.

Among advantages of the program is the presence of three engines, support for a large number of plug-ins, change of different themes and its being free of charge.

Browsera provides automatic test for compatibility. While testing, differences in the types of output design in different browsers are highlighted, which greatly facilitates the process. JavaScript errors are also revealed.

Browsrcamp is a paid service allowing developers to view web pages in different browsers and operating systems. It supports any browser / operating system combinations. It also allows you to test the code on any platform.

IE Tester

IE Tester is a free browser for Windows, allowing to test the site in IE 5.5, IE 6, IE 7, IE 8, IE 9 and IE 10 Previev. You can test HTML + CSS rendering and JavaScript. Only the alpha version of the tool is available. The requirement to run the program is the availability of Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP and Internet Explorer 7 or higher.

Browserling is a relatively new application for testing cross browser compatibility. It supports a limited set of browsers, which restricts its use among developers.

Sauce Labs

Sauce Labs offers many options of browsers and operating systems. It also records video of your testing session. The service offers 200 free minutes for testing in a month and allows you to quickly create automated test of the browser using Selenium.
