Google has officially launched mod_pagespeed module

Google has repeatedly reminded us about the importance of site speed. And that is why in 2010 the company launched a beta test of open-source module for Apache web server called mod_pagespeed, which allowed to reduce site page load time by 50%.

Within those two years Google development team was committed to improving the functionality, quality and performance of the module due to which it finally became fully operational.

Google announced that the module is ready for widespread use, though it is worth noting that a number of the largest hosting providers like DreamHost, Go Daddy, and content delivery network EdgeCast have already been using it in production for quite a long period of time. Mod_pagespeed is applied to 40 different filters of optimization. For example, it can optimize your images by compressing and resizing automatically.

Unfortunately, in most cases the module mod-pagespeed does not give a significant increase in the speed of the site, but rather, on the contrary, it can significantly slow down the loading process as server will need to focus resources on compressing images, scripts, etc. Mod_pagespeed module is already used by more than 120,000 websites around the world.
