Importance of Web Design Functionality

One of the most significant factors in web design and web-mastering in general is not only high attendance, but also design functionality that is convenient for visitors.

The functionality of web design is a must to ensure that users not only log in and log out of the site, but also study its content, links and all the necessary information.

So let’s consider some practical tips on the creation of a functional website design.

1. First of all, think over and draw a schematic functional design on paper. The preferred design may be implemented either with the help of layers or through special tables with invisible borders embedded into one another.

Each option has its pros and cons. That’s why you need to make a choice based on the visual specifics of your future site. If you plan to create a simple and concise site, then tables are fine. If you wish to make a colorful site with a complex design and a large number of elements arranged non-linearly then layers will be your best choice.

2. Standard site has three major elements: header, navigation menu and the lower part (footer), where, as a rule, counters and copyright are placed.

When working on design be sure to consider the purpose of each of these elements.

The header is probably the first thing a user sees on the site so it should be a one to be remembered. Make the site menu convenient and informative, while the footer, on the contrary, needn’t be flaring.

The header is usually implemented in the form of a graphic banner and contains the full name of the site, logo and slogan. It is recommended to make the header or at least the logo of the site a hyperlink to the home page.

3. Navigation menu is perhaps the most important element of functionality in web design. The website can be colorful and interesting, but a confusing menu will most likely make people leave the site.

First of all, buttons and the text should not be too small and stand close to each other.

Secondly, there should be a reasonable number in menu items: the presence of too many items will simply lead to confusion, whereas too few menu items may in their turn eliminate the opportunity for visitors to effectively use all the features of the site.

And thirdly, button names should be readable. It is better to use a clear and simple font that contrasts with the background color.
